As part of the "Hajj-2025" program, Air Marakanda operated the first pilgrimage flight to Saudi Arabia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Within the framework of the state program "Hajj-2025," Samarkand International Airport handled the first pilgrimage flight operated by the national carrier Uzbekistan Airways to Medina.
On 26 May, more than 240 pilgrims departed from Samarkand International Airport on this inaugural flight.
According to the established procedure, to ensure efficient and comfortable service for pilgrims, passenger and baggage check-in is conducted in advance. Each departing pilgrim is then individually issued a passport and boarding pass, and is accompanied until boarding. The terminal provides additional spaces for prayer, prayer rooms equipped with necessary items, and a food area. Wheelchairs and assistance to the aircraft are provided for passengers with limited mobility.
An operational headquarters has been established to coordinate activities, involving leaders from Air Marakanda, LLC “Samarqand xalqaro aeroporti,” JSC “Uzbekistan Airways,” representatives of the regional hokimiyat, the Samarkand regional branch of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, and relevant government bodies.
During the servicing of the flights, emergency medical teams and law enforcement officers are on duty at the terminal, with enhanced security measures in place to maintain order in the station area and at gathering points for accompanying persons.
By 28 May, three more flights on the Samarkand – Medina route are planned. Services will continue in full compliance with all necessary procedures.
