Apple leapfrogs Samsung in US phone market
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Apple of the United States has passed Samsung to become the top mobile-phone maker in the US in the fourth quarter of 2012 for the first time, research firm Strategy Analytics said.

According to the Strategy Analytics, Apple sold 17.7 million iPhones phones in the US during the fourth quarter, a 38% jump from a year earlier. Its market share in the US grew from 25% to 34%.

South Korean Samsung sold 16.8 million handsets in the fourth quarter of 2012 and it holds a 32 percent market share in the United States.

LG Electronics Inc. remained the third-largest vendor in the US, shipping 4.7 million mobile phones for a 9% market share, Strategy Analytics said.

Strategy Analytics said that total shipments grew 4% in the quarter to 52 million phones.
