Another Uzbekistan’s CDM-project could be registered soon
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project “Reduction of natural gas leakage at compressor stations of Uztransgas JSC” entered to final registration stage at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The project could be registered on 3 November 2010 if there are no remarks by member of the Executive Board of the UNFCCC, Designated National Authority on the CDM said.

On 23 June 2009, the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted resolution “On measures on implementation of project “Reduction of natural gas leakage at compressor stations of Uztransgas JSC” within the Clean Development Mechanism of Kyoto Protocol”.

The resolution envisages implementation of CDM projects on “clean investment” scheme, which will cover both investment expenses of initiators and investors of CDM project and direct part of income from sale of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) to implementation of social projects and introduction of modern efficient technologies, including renewable energy technologies.

In case of registration of the CDM project, Uzbekistan will strengthen its leadership on number of registered CDM projects (8 projects) and the volume of annual emission reduction (1.8 million tonnes of CO2-equivallent) in the CIS and Eastern European states.

Two more CDM projects of Uzbekistan on reducing leakage at low and medium pressure natural gas distribution network in five regions of the country are in registration stage at the UNFCCC.

If the projects receive registration by the end of 2010, number of registered projects of Uzbekistan will reach ten with estimated annual emission reduction of 3.13 million tonnes of CO2-equivallent.
