Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyayev signed a resolution “On measures on improving activity of service, related to capture and care of abandoned animals” on 8 July 2011.
According to the document, animal control divisions will be created under the city and district accomplishment departments from 1 August 2011. Overall, it is planned to create 188 divisions with over 560 employees across Uzbekistan.
Divisions will capture abandoned cats and dogs and create special places for their care, as well as deliver animals, which bite or attacked people, to veterinary bodies for further quarantine.
The government ordered Interior Ministry to strengthen control over adherence to rules of care after dogs and cats in inhabited areas and carry out effective measures to attract violators to responsibility.
Interior Ministry will also organize shooting of uncared and abandoned, as well as sick animals in rabies pesthole and in areas with unfavorable epizootic areas on request of the state veterinary bodies.
Cabinet of Ministers ordered local authorities to allocate land areas to accomplishment departments to construct crematorium to destroy bodies of animals.
The resolution also envisages measures on vaccination of animals against rubies and group of population, who potentially have risk to infection.
