Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – An online food security monitoring system was launched in Kyrgyzstan.

The platform was developed jointly with the UN and is designed to plan measures to ensure food security at various levels.

According to experts, this platform in real time will: a) analyze the availability, access, use and stability of food supplies; b) assist the authorities in determining the level of food security, threats and risks; c) facilitate the implementation of targeted response measures.

The platform will collect and analyze real-time data on over 70 food security and nutrition indicators.

According to the developers of the system, the platform conducts a dynamic analysis of the state of 9 basic food products, including wheat, meat, eggs, milk, potatoes, fruits, vegetables, sugar and vegetable oil. According to experts, this will lead to the development of effective measures to ensure the availability of basic food.

In particular, today the urgent problems are: 1) dependence on external supplies for sugar (120 thousand tons are imported annually), vegetable oil (14 thousand tons) and flour (450 thousand tons); 2) high volatility of food prices due to the growth in the cost of agricultural products, low harvest in the country or in the world (in the first half of the year, food prices increased by 20% on average).

In general, it is emphasized that the online platform will facilitate:

firstly, drawing up a real picture of the state of food security;

second, determining the level of access of the population to food products;

third, the development of proposals for solving problems in the food sector.
