Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - An international conference on the topic “Constitutional and Legal Basis for Holding Parliamentary Elections: the Experience of Uzbekistan and Developed Democratic Countries” was held in the conference room of the International Hotel Tashkent.
Its organizers were the Central Election Commission, the Constitutional Court of Uzbekistan and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The conference was attended by a large number of foreign experts, as well as international observers who arrived in our country these days on the occasion of the parliamentary elections. The forum was opened by the first deputy chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Sadyk Safaev. He noted that for our country, international experience and practice in deep democratic processes are of great importance.
- We are very grateful to all our partners from foreign countries who take part as observers in the upcoming 22 December elections. And also to those who agreed to be with us at this conference and share the facts, assessments, theory and practice of the election process, Sadik Safaev said.
Ilyas Umakhanov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, noted that it was a great honor for him to be among the participants in the international conference.
“I want to say that Uzbekistan has accumulated distinctive traditions of statehood over the thousand-year history, during the time of the Timurid dynasty Samarkand was rightly called the “shining star of the East.” Responsibility and high moral standards, gleaned from the centuries-old experience of the historical and spiritual development of the Uzbek people, have formed the modern foundations of the dialogue between the citizen and the state. They also became the foundation for the electoral system of Uzbekistan, the Russian politician emphasized.
“I am sure that the conference will become a platform for reasoned debate and an important step towards strengthening international cooperation and enhancing dialogue between government bodies, scientific and public organizations of the states of Europe, Asia and the whole world,” the message says.
At the conference, Tetsuji Tanaka, Director General of the Central Asian and Caucasus Research Institute, spoke on the topic “General and Peculiarities in Holding Parliamentary Elections in the Countries of Central Asia and Japan,” who shared his experience in conducting the election process in his country. He also briefly dwelt on the election process in the countries of Central Asia.
“I have participated in the elections in Uzbekistan several times,” the Japanese expert noted. - The current parliamentary elections are distinguished by compliance with international standards. On 22 December, the provisions of the new Electoral Code, which was adopted this summer, will be put into practice.
