Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An emu, injured by visitors at the Tashkent Zoo, underwent surgery, said chief veterinarian Mahmud Kuzibayev.

One of the visitors threw crackers over the fence. While trying to get them, the emu got stuck with its head stuck under the bars.

As a result of this accident, the emu suffered damage to its mandible, cartilage, throat and trachea.

Veterinarians had to make an emergency decision and perform surgery on the spot because the bird had lost a lot of blood.

The emu’s condition is currently stable, the veterinarian added.
