An attempt to export two Long-legged Buzzard chicks from Uzbekistan has been stopped

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Employees of the Customs Committee, with the contribution and advisory assistance of specialists from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, revealed the fact of an attempt to export two Long-legged Buzzard chicks from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan by a Kazakh citizen.

A preliminary investigation has been launched into this fact to prepare and send materials to the judicial authorities.

The discovered chicks were seized and transferred for temporary maintenance to the Tashkent Zoo, where they are currently quarantined for further rehabilitation.

The Long-legged Buzzard  (Buteo rufinus) is a bird of prey from the genus of true buzzards of the hawk family (Accipitridae). It is found in the Mediterranean region, particularly in North Africa, Greece, and Turkey, as well as in the Caucasus, the Arabian Peninsula, and Central Asia.

It should be noted that measures are being taken on an ongoing basis in the republic to combat crimes against wildlife by several conventions and agreements on biodiversity protection. Thus, the Concept of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030 and the Strategy for the Conservation of Biological Diversity in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2028 were previously approved. Our country, together with UNDP, was one of the first to start work on updating its biodiversity conservation strategy after the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework for Biodiversity Conservation (GBF) in 2022.
