An agreement was signed to attract 9 million euros of German funds for the development of “green” industrialization in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 December, representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan met with Torsten Bretzin, coordinator of the Regional Programs Cluster in Central Asia.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai.

The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss current projects and identify prospects for cooperation for the transition to a green economy.

The negotiations started with a discussion of the current reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, including the development of master plans for each region of the country. These reforms are key to a successful transition to a green economy and are supported by donors and financial institutions.

The project “Private Sector Assistance and Economic Policy Consultation in Uzbekistan”, aimed at identifying industrial sectors and infrastructure for the subsequent green transition, was also discussed. The project will contribute to economic reforms, creating conditions for long-term development, especially with an emphasis on green industrialization and economics.

The parties signed an agreement on the implementation of the project “Promotion of the private sector and consultations on economic policy in Uzbekistan” (“Green Industrialization”) with a total value of 9 million euros.

The project includes the development and implementation of sustainable green economy policies, support for the private sector in adapting green technologies and other measures for sustainable production and reducing environmental impact.

The project will also provide expertise on CO2 measurement and certification, support Uzbekistan’s participation in the international trade of CO2 certificates and adaptation to the EU cross-border management mechanism (CBM).
