Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting of the railway leaders of five countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, with the participation of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was held in Tashkent on 19-20 December.

During the first meeting, the participants agreed on the importance of holding this event on the development of the international multimodal route "Asia-Pacific countries - China - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Azerbaijan - Georgia - Europe" and vice versa, with the development of common approaches for the accelerated passage of container trains and the application of unified tariffs That will significantly increase the volume of trade not only between the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus, but also with other states of the European and Asian continent. In this regard, the parties agreed to take agreed measures to mutually increase the volume of goods and develop the route.

The issues of attracting cargo volumes, developing the logistics infrastructure along the route "Kashgar - Osh (with the help of road transport) - Andijan - Farab - port of Turkmenbashi - port of Alat - Gardabani", and then on the directions of the ports of Georgia or Akhalkala - Kars - ports of Turkey, were examined.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to establish competitive special transit tariff rates (including for sea feeder transport) along the route of the territories of the parties to container trains.

In addition, the participants will work on the issue of accelerated passage of goods with the border and customs departments of their countries.

In order to quickly implement the decisions made on the development of the route, the meeting participants agreed on the creation of a Coordination Committee composed of the heads of railways of the participating countries, chaired by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

It is planned to organize the first pilot container train along the multimodal route during the first quarter of 2020.
