American fashionista Kithe Brewster’s Resort Collection features Uzbek fabrics
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Resort Collection, crafted by American fashion designer Kithe Brewster and presented recently in Lower Manhattan, featured elegant designs made from Uzbek fabrics.

This is the second time Brewster, one of the most creative minds in the American fashion industry, incorporated Uzbek fabrics into his creations, a sign that he took a keen liking to the fabrics while in Tashkent for Style.Uz Art Week 2011.

The fashion show that had its venue at a New York restaurant, Casa La Femme, in Lower Manhattan, presented thirty looks featuring silk, leather, chiffon and satin. The designs made from Uzbek fabrics, provided by Fund Forum, were among the “wows” of Brewster’s Resort Collection.

A sylphlike model sashayed down the carpet in a black-and-white atlas dress gracefully and seemed to have cast a spell on the crowd. Brewster used this fabric to create both men’s and women’s outfits, which comes as yet another piece of evidence that national Uzbek textiles present many opportunities in terms of creativity. One distinctive feature that embellishes some of the women’s designs which Brewster has come up with is a golden flower-shaped waistband.

Given the predominantly dark colors in the Resort Collection, the appearance of a model clad in a bright pink atlas dress had a dramatic effect on the viewers. Clearly, no one in the crowd had expected such a sharp change of tone in the collection, a change from dark to bright, from the European to the Oriental.

The front-row guests at the show included celebrities such as ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ actress Cynthia Bailey, the producers of ‘Terminator Salvation’ Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson, Emmy Award-winning comedy actor Andy Samberg and blue-haired American writer Beatrix Ost among others.

Last year, in the margins of Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, Brewster showcased a fall collection that included pieces from Uzbek national fabrics he had brought from Tashkent following his workshop held as part of Style.Uz Art Week. Notably, some of the celebrities who attended last year’s show by Brewster came back to feast their eyes on the new designs presented at Casa La Femme.
