Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the 56th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was discussed.
This Law was developed to align existing legislation with the new edition of the Constitution and includes significant amendments aimed at implementing the principles enshrined in the updated Constitution.
Specifically, the Law introduces changes to 26 legislative acts, including 6 codes and 20 statutes, to bring them in line with Article 19 of the updated Constitution, which states that "all citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan have equal rights and freedoms and are equal before the law regardless of gender, race, nationality, language, religion, beliefs, social origin, and public status."
The amendments also affect the Law on the Media, which is supplemented with a provision on the freedom and independence of the media and their activities in accordance with the law.
Additionally, changes are made to the Labor Code and the Law on State Service, aimed at preventing discrimination, such as refusal to hire due to a relative’s criminal record.
Senators noted that this Law contributes to further strengthening the legal guarantees for protecting citizens, ensuring equal opportunities in exercising their rights, including employment, and enhancing the guarantees of freedom for media activities.
The Law was approved by the senators.
