Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov met yesterday in Riga with the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture of Latvia Armands Krause, Dunyo news agency reported.

A detailed exchange of views took place on the prospects for intensifying agricultural, trade and investment, high-tech, scientific and technical partnership between the two countries.

The issue of establishing close cooperation to ensure food security was especially noted.

The politician said that Uzbekistan is Latvia’s key partner in Central Asia.

A steady increase in the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan was noted; this, as emphasized, contributes to the emergence of new areas of cooperation.

The Minister highly appreciated the results of interaction within the framework of institutional and consultation mechanisms of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia. The results of political consultations, as well as the opening in Latvia of the Trading House, the Honorary Consulate of Uzbekistan and the representative office of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency in Tashkent were positively assessed.

The importance of reaching specific agreements on strengthening economic partnerships, including in the field of mutual investment and trade, agriculture and forestry, information and communication technologies, tourism, transport and logistics, was emphasized.

The level, schedule and agenda of upcoming contacts between the Ministries of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and Latvia were also substantively discussed at the meeting.
