Alisher Kadyrov: solving electricity issues requires tariff increases

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Alisher Kadyrov, head of the "Milliy Tiklanish" party, has stated that solving electricity issues requires tariff increases.

Legislative Chamber deputy Alisher Kadyrov commented on the widespread discontent among residents regarding the new electricity tariffs.

Kadyrov acknowledged existing problems in the electricity sector, labeling them as "yesterday's mistakes."

He added that these problems need to be addressed today to prevent them from continuing tomorrow. According to him, addressing these issues requires tariff hikes.

Alisher Kadyrov mentioned that the cost price of one kilowatt-hour of electricity is 990 soums.

The deputy emphasized that selling electricity at 450 soums per kilowatt-hour up to 200 kilowatt-hours and at 900 soums up to 1000 kilowatt-hours should be viewed as support rather than a demand.

He stated that raising tariffs aims to transition the sector to market principles.

"The faster the energy sector transitions to market relations, the faster our economy will grow, the more jobs will be created, and the higher the incomes of the population will be," noted the politician.

In his opinion, market relations will also ensure the necessary level of electricity supply.

It should be noted that new electricity and gas tariffs were introduced in Uzbekistan starting from 1 May 2024. Additionally, a social consumption norm for electricity and gas was introduced for the population.
