Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting was held at the Tourism Committee with a delegation from Malaysia, led by the Chairman of AirAsia X, Datuk Kamaruddin Meranun, and the company’s Director, Benjamin Ismail.

The parties discussed the prospects of launching regular flights on the Kuala Lumpur – Tashkent – Kuala Lumpur route, which is planned to operate three times a week, starting in October of this year.

The possibility of expanding cooperation was also considered, including the organization of connecting flights to other countries.

Special attention was given to increasing the flow of tourists from Malaysia to Uzbekistan, particularly through the development of pilgrimage tourism under the “Umrah+” program. Uzbek tour operators also participated in the discussion.

The Malaysian side emphasized that Uzbekistan is attracting increasing interest from Malaysian tourists due to its Islamic heritage and religious traditions. As a country with a predominantly Muslim population, Malaysia views Uzbekistan not only as a cultural destination but also as an important part of pilgrimage routes.
