Agency of State Assets and World Bank discuss bilateral relations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 October 2024, the Agency of State Assets held a meeting with a delegation led by World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia, Tatiana Proskuryakova.

At the start of the meeting, the director of the State Assets Agency, Akmalhon Ortikov, congratulated Tatiana Proskuryakova on the opening of the World Bank’s regional office in Tashkent in July 2024 and the appointment of a new representative for Uzbekistan. He wished her success in her future endeavors.

The parties highlighted that bilateral cooperation has already yielded significant results, particularly in reform efforts. With the World Bank’s support, the laws “On State Property Management” and “On Privatization of State Property” were developed and enacted, enhancing the privatization process in the country.

Earlier this year, the president approved a new privatization program for 2024, which aims to privatize shares in 247 state-owned enterprises and over 1,000 real estate assets. It also includes the placement of shares of major state-owned companies on domestic and international markets through IPOs and SPOs.

During the meeting, ongoing projects were discussed, including the development of a business intelligence (BI) system for monitoring the performance of state enterprises under the World Bank’s Institutional Building Loan (IBL) project.

The parties also talked about the need for an international consultant to improve corporate governance and develop a unified policy for state enterprises.

Additionally, the agency plans to develop a reform and privatization strategy for 2025-2030, and the World Bank expressed readiness to provide technical assistance in drafting this document.

The meeting concluded with discussions on mechanisms to accelerate current projects and joint actions, with both sides agreeing to continue active cooperation on future initiatives.
