Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is set to establish a new Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development. This decision was made following a decree by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The new agency will serve as a bridge between the public and sanitation enterprises in matters related to waste management. It will be organized based on the existing Republican Center for Organizing Sanitation Services.
The agency will be responsible for developing, testing, and implementing unified standards and regulations for waste management. It will also coordinate activities in the sector and manage state assets related to waste.
Starting from 1 March 2025, specific criteria for evaluating the performance of sanitation enterprises will be introduced.
Furthermore, several initiatives are planned to improve waste management in regions, increase transparency and public involvement, and establish better feedback mechanisms between businesses and citizens.
From 1 January 2026, the following measures will be implemented:
- Online tracking of tenders for waste management services.
- Installation of video cameras at waste collection points to monitor the performance of sanitation enterprises.
- GPS tracking systems for monitoring the location of waste transport vehicles.
- Establishment of a call center to provide information about sanitation companies, accept complaints, and offer feedback services.
- Clear information on service boundaries, the location of waste collection points, and waste removal schedules will be available to subscribers.
