Agency for Migration established in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new Agency for Migration has been established under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

The agency has been formed based on the previous agency and serves as an authorized executive body responsible for implementing state policy in the area of external labor migration. It will coordinate the activities of government agencies in this sector and provide state services.

Starting from 1 January 2025, the agency will be allowed to conduct inspections related to the activities of private employment agencies.

From 1 December 2024, the reserve funds that private employment agencies are required to set aside for licensing will be reduced from 8,500 to 4,000 times the basic estimated value (BEV).

By 1 January 2026, the agency’s functions related to organized selection of citizens for employment abroad and job placement will gradually be transferred to private employment agencies.

The Agency for Migration will organize courses for citizens to acquire in-demand professions and learn foreign languages, as well as provide free assistance in preparing documents for employment abroad and obtaining work visas.

A Migration Fund will be established within the agency, from which microloans of up to 10 million soums will be provided to labor migrants for a period of up to two years.

The fund will also cover medical expenses for migrants in need of assistance who do not have health insurance. Additionally, it will provide subsidies to insurance companies to cover insurance premiums for contracts related to life, health, and other risks for migrants.

Starting from 1 November 2024, all job vacancies from foreign employers will be openly published on the platforms of the Agency for Migration, in the media, and on social networks. Citizens will be able to post their resumes and participate in competitions for open positions.

From 1 December 2024, the agency will begin placing orders for training in professional skills and foreign languages for citizens wishing to work abroad.

In September, it was announced that Behzod Musayev would lead the Agency for External Labor Migration, which will operate under the Cabinet of Ministers.
