Administrative measures strengthened for illicit trafficking of pyrotechnics

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- At the 54th plenary session of the Senate, the Law "On amendments to the Code of administrative responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan, aimed at strengthening responsibility for illicit trafficking of pyrotechnics" was reviewed.

It was noted that in recent years, systematic efforts have been undertaken in the country to enhance the effectiveness of measures to prevent violations, including preventing the illicit trafficking of pyrotechnic products.

Between 2021 and 2023, authorities prevented 239 cases of illegal importation of over 300,000 pyrotechnic products worth about 2 billion soums into the country.

However, to further strengthen measures to protect the lives and health of citizens and the property of individuals and legal entities, there is a need to enhance administrative responsibility measures related to the illegal trafficking of pyrotechnic products.

The amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility of the Republic of Uzbekistan introduced by this Law envisage increased penalties for the illegal production, manufacture, storage, transportation, shipment, and export of pyrotechnic products from Uzbekistan, as well as for the illegal sale or import of pyrotechnic products into the country, based on the nature and degree of public danger posed by these offenses.

It was noted that the Senate of the Oliy Majlis is continuously engaged in preventing negative incidents related to the illegal production, storage, and use of pyrotechnic products, as well as their illegal sale or import into our country.

For instance, the Senate Committee on Defense and Security Issues sent a senatorial inquiry to the agencies responsible for preventing such negative incidents and received appropriate responses. The Committee issued recommendations to the Border Troops of the State Security Service to further strengthen preventive measures to prevent the smuggling of pyrotechnic materials from neighboring countries into our territory.

The new norms included in the Law, discussed at the Senate plenary session, are a practical result of the ongoing general efforts.

The approval of the Law serves to further enhance the effectiveness of measures taken to ensure public safety and prevent cases of illicit trafficking of pyrotechnic products.

After discussions, the Law was approved by the senators.
