Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 25 June 2020, the Board of Directors of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved US$500 million in funding for Uzbekistan for budget support. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

An agreement on the allocation of long-term concessional financing was earlier reached during the negotiations of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov with ADB President M. Asakava, held on 1 April via video conference.

The allocated funding will be aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability, uninterrupted operation of economic sectors, as well as effective social support of the population during the pandemic.

These funds will also be used to purchase ventilation devices, test systems, personal protective equipment, and the provision of individual social packages to female health workers.

This financial assistance is an additional ADB support to the ADB grant funds of US$1,555,900 previously provided to the Government of Uzbekistan as part of regional technical assistance.
