ACWA POWER wins the first stage of the tender for the construction of a wind power plant in Karakalpakstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- ACWA POWER-Saudi (Saudi Arabia) won the first stage of the tender for the construction of a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW electricity storage system in Karaozak and Beruni districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

On 22 November, the winner of the first stage of the tender for the construction of a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW electricity storage system in the Karaozak and Beruni regions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan was announced.

This project is being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) within the framework of the “Program for the development and provision of advisory services for the construction of a wind power plant with a total capacity of 200 MW” (EBRD Phase 2).

Two international companies participated in the tender - ACWA POWER-Saudi (Saudi Arabia) and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company - Masdar (UAE).

ACWA POWER-Saudi offered 4.09 US cents per 1 kWh of electricity generated from the wind farm and energy storage system.

Masdar offered 4.99 US cents per 1 kWh of electricity generated by the wind farm and energy storage system.

A company from Saudi Arabia won the first round of the tender for the project “Construction of a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW electricity storage system in the Karaozak and Beruni regions of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.” Masdar was announced as the reserve winner of the tender.

In the coming days, the tender documentation will be reviewed and approved by the tender commission with the participation of EBRD consultants.

The tender was held by the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade, as well as JSC National Electric Networks of Uzbekistan.

The investor who will implement the project will be announced after assessing the compliance of financial proposals with the necessary criteria.

The project stipulates the construction of a wind power plant with a capacity of 200 MW in Karaozak and Beruni districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and an electricity storage system with a capacity of 100 MW.

The winning investor will design, finance and operate the wind farm.
