ACWA Power to Build Energy Storage Systems in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Saudi company ACWA Power will build energy storage systems in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatt-hours. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

The agreement to implement this project was signed during the COP-29 conference, which is taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The document outlines cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and ACWA Power in the construction of energy storage systems across the country with a combined capacity of 2,000 MWh.

The project will begin with a study of the current state of the energy system, based on which regions will be selected for the phased introduction of the storage system.

The project is preliminarily estimated to cost US$1.1 billion, and more than 1,000 jobs will be created during its implementation.

It was previously reported that Uzbekistan aims to commission energy storage systems with a total capacity of 4.2 gigawatts by 2030.

This year, the first 300 megawatts of energy storage capacity are planned to be launched, including one project currently underway in the Fergana region.
