Activities of the “New Uzbekistan” University to be further enhanced
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A presidential resolution has been adopted titled “On Measures for the Further Development of the Activities of the ‘New Uzbekistan’ University.”
The main objectives of this document include:
– Establishing academic schools aimed at fostering talented youth and highly capable professors and educators;
– Ensuring close integration of education, practical application, and scientific research in the field of medicine based on international standards and best practices, as well as training highly qualified professionals who can compete on a global level.
As part of these goals, a Center for the Transfer of Advanced Knowledge and Experience will be established at the University.
Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, a system of government grants will be introduced for master’s degree students at the University, similar to the system currently in place for the bachelor’s level under a Cabinet of Ministers resolution.
Until 1 December 2027, the University will be exempt from paying customs duties on imported equipment, software and technical tools, and components that are not produced in Uzbekistan. This exemption does not apply to VAT, excise tax, or customs clearance fees.
The resolution also introduces a new mechanism for grant-based funding of research projects in technical and medical fields. Specifically:
– If annual project funding exceeds 2,500 sizes of basic estimated value (BEV), it must be supported by a conclusion from a higher educational institution ranked in the top 30 globally;
– At least 60% of funds allocated to research must be spent on purchasing necessary equipment for project implementation.
Moreover, if annual funding exceeds 5,000 sizes of basic estimated value (BEV), the project leader will be required to:
– Attract foreign grants to co-finance at least 20% of the total project cost;
– Involve at least three PhD candidates and ten master's students in project implementation;
– Form a research team of at least 10 members, including at least one foreign scholar with an h-index above 20.
Additionally, in collaboration with higher education institutions from the Federal Republic of Germany, a medical faculty meeting European standards will be established at the University.
