ACL: The numbers game
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The conclusion of the AFC Champions League MD 3 action on Tuesday and Wednesday provided a rich treasure trove of numbers for the discerning statistician.

Brazilian Leandro, who struts his stuff for Al Sadd, breached the previously held all-time goals record of Zainitdin Tadjiyev with two goals in the Qatari side’s 4-1 win over Iranians Mes Kerman to reach 15 goals. The brace pushed up the number of goals he has scored in this edition to five.

But the remaining three match days could yet see Leandro’s ACL career record come under threat from none other than the mercurial but extremely talented Al Ittihad (Saudi Arabia) midfielder Mohamed Noor. With 13 goals to his name, Noor has every chance of overhauling Leandro’s freshly laid milestone.

Iranian giants Esteghlal’s Farhad Majidi is second to Leandro in this instalment’s goal-scoring run with four strikes, followed by Uzbek side Bunyodkor’s Denilson and seven other players who are on three goals each.

Chinese club Changchun Yatai’s fiery 9-0 win over the hapless Indonesians Persipura Jayapura means they still hold the lead in the goals-scored department with 10 goals. Al Sadd’s rampage against Mes took them to nine goals while Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia) are on eight.

Also in the top-10 teams who have scored the most goals are comeback specialists Adelaide United (Australia) and big winners Zob Ahan (Iran).

With no end in sight to Persipura’s woes, they are, not surprisingly, on top of the goals conceded section. They have shipped 18 goals in three matches, an average of six goals for every match. UAE’s Al Ahli are a distant second with 10 goals slipping into their net. Mes have conceded nine.
