Abramov: We are rested and ready!
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan coach Vadim Abramov believes his players have now put Tuesday's demoralising semi-final defeat to Australia firmly out of their minds as they look to secure a place at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup with victory over Korea Republic in Friday's third-place play-off.

Uzbekistan saw their dreams of a first appearance in the continental final ruthlessly crushed at Khalifa Stadium as Australia fired six goals past them without reply to clinch an AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011™ final showdown with Japan on Saturday.

The Central Asians now have to pick themselves up to face Korea at Al Sadd Stadium with the winners guaranteed a place in Australia in four years time.

And Abramov believes his players will not carry the mental scars of the heavy defeat at the hands of Holger Osieck's side into that encounter.

“I think so, two days of rest has improved their minds,” he said.

“Everybody knows now what they are doing. I hope for a good game against South Korea, perhaps our best game of the tournament and maybe that will help us forget about the last result.

“After the last game against Australia I was not happy but we must play another game against Korea Republic.

“I think it is very important and that it will be better if we win and forget the terrible result against Australia. It would be very good if we qualified for the next Asian Cup because we can use the time to prepare well.

“I hope the players understand what happened when they go out onto the field and they must change everything. I hope they can forget that result for Friday's game.”

Abramov will be without Ulugbek Bakaev through suspension as the two-goal hero of the last eight win over Jordan was sent-off against Australia after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.

Abramov, though, confirmed he will in all likelihood shake-up his side in any case for the game against the Koreans.

“Yes, I think I will change some players,” he added.

“First I want to say thank you to the players. They played well and prepared well for this tournament.

“In January, they normally only prepare for the new club season. They have to play this tournament so they had some problems but they will go back to the clubs to prepare for domestic campaign. Some players also play outside Uzbekistan and so miss time with their clubs, which is also difficult.”
