Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A briefing was held at the CEC International Press Center, which was addressed by the chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov.
He told domestic and foreign journalists, international observers and representatives of the republic’s public about the beginning and course of voting, the work of polling stations in Tashkent and the regions of the republic.
The head of the CEC said that 10,260 polling stations have begun work in Uzbekistan. Out of 55 polling stations created within the diplomatic missions of Uzbekistan abroad, polling stations have already opened for voting in Japan, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, India, Central Asia, and eastern regions of Russia.
It was noted that five political parties are taking part in the current elections for the first time in history, 744 candidates are registered. Monitoring of the election campaign showed the absence of gross violations of the law in the process of campaigning by political parties.
It was noted that throughout the republic, 120 video cameras were installed in 60 polling stations throughout the republic, thanks to which the CEC International Press Center can online monitor the voting process even in the most remote regions.
It was reported that 825 international observers from more than 40 countries and authoritative international organizations observe the election. 70,000 observers from civil society and political parties are registered.
The parliamentary elections in the republic are covered by about 100 foreign journalists, as well as 800 domestic media workers.
Mr. Abdusalomov noted that the representation of women in the election commissions is 50%. At the time of the press conference, information on violations of the law and voting procedure was not reported. At the same time, at each polling station there is information on the procedure for submitting applications and complaints in case of any violations.
Voting in the Republic of Uzbekistan will last until 20.00, at polling stations with diplomatic missions of the country in Western countries - in accordance with the time difference.
