Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree to create the "Gelon" tourist and recreational zone in the Kashkadarya region.
The project to establish an all-season resort complex near Shahrisabz will be implemented by the Russian company "Snow Service." In October 2023, the company signed an investment agreement at the forum of interregional cooperation in Kazan.
The preliminary investment in the project is estimated at US$300 million. The first phase will involve an investment of US$100 million by 2027, and the completion of all works is planned for 2030.
A total of 2,900 hectares of land have been allocated for the creation of the recreational zone for a period of 30 years. The area will include the construction of hotel complexes, cultural and wellness facilities, shopping and entertainment centers, and other tourist attractions.
Land plots within the zone will be leased or sold to businesses through online auctions. The funds generated will be deposited into the account of the "Gelon" zone management and used for mountain tourism projects, as well as for the creation and maintenance of the necessary infrastructure.
Additionally, the project includes the reconstruction of the Gelon-Khisorak and Khisorak-Sarchashma roads, totaling 33 km. Another 30 km of the Chirakchi-Shurkuduk road and the Miraki-Khisorak highway will be upgraded to third-category roads.
