Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Uzbekkino National Agency and Samarkand regional khokimiyat reached an agreement on the filming of films dedicated to the historical figures of Uzbekistan.

One of them is a series about Shirak, a shepherd from the Sak tribe who lured and killed a significant part of the invaders of the Persian army of King Darius in the desert.

Another project is the creation of a feature film about Mahmudhoja Behbudi, a well-known educator, one of the prominent figures of Jadidism, an outstanding writer and playwright. It is worth noting that this year Uzbekistan will widely celebrate the 145th anniversary of Mahmudhoji Behbudi.

Commenting on the agreement, the head of “Uzbekkino” Firdavs Abdahalikov emphasized that the initiatives expressed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the Address to the Oliy Majlis on the importance of perpetuating the memory of national heroes began to be implemented.

Thanks were also expressed to the khokimiyat of Samarkand region for their initiative and assistance in creating the above films.

“We are grateful to the khokim of the Samarkand region Erkinjon Turdimov for the initiatives taken to implement the instructions of the country's leadership to perpetuate the memory of great historical figures, including the creation of film production about the persistence and courage of captured Uzbeks in the German concentration camp Amersfoort during the Second World War,” said Firdavs Abdukhalikov.

“This example is worthy of attention from other areas, the public and sponsors, since each region of our country should not only be proud of the names of historical figures who have contributed to the great history of our country, but also in practice work to perpetuate their names. These projects are also important in that we provide jobs for our cinema industry workers, and most importantly, involve young filmmakers in this process, where they will receive excellent practice and invaluable experience in creating historical films together with foreign filmmakers,” he said.

The film about Mahmudhoja Behbudi is planned to be shot in Samarkand before the end of this year.

The parties decided to invite foreign directors as consultants on the filming of the television series about Shirak.

The issue of filming in the Navoi region is also being discussed. It is there, according to historical facts, that there are deserted deserts in which the bold and courageous Shirak led troops of the Persian invaders. In this regard, Uzbekkino and the Samarkand hokimiat plan to invite the hokimiat of the Navoi region to participate in this project.

The screenwriter of the television series about Shirak was made by Nazar Kholikulov, known under the pseudonym Nazar Eshonkul - writer, screenwriter, author of scenes from more than 20 series and feature films. Uzbekkino plans to select directors of the above films on a tender basis.
