A student who tried to set fire to the Israeli embassy in Tashkent was convicted in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan convicted a 19-year-old second-year student of the Uzbek State University of World Languages, who tried to set fire to the Israeli embassy in Tashkent.

A student attempted to set fire to the Israeli Embassy in Tashkent on the morning of 19 April. Armed with a bottle of kerosene, dumbbells, two boxes of matches and pieces of fabric, he rode a bicycle to the diplomatic mission building.

Law enforcement officers who were nearby the embassy stopped the guy. But he tried to escape.

Law enforcement officers detained him, took him to the police department building and asked him to show the contents of his bag. The student distracted their attention, grabbed a bottle of kerosene and dumbbells, and rushed towards the embassy.

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard, guarding the embassy building, detained the young man near the doors of the building, but he managed to throw a bottle and dumbbells over the wall into the embassy courtyard.

At the trial, the guy said that he had watched videos about the conflict between Israel and Palestine in the Gaza Strip. He hated Israel and decided to set fire to the embassy of this state in Tashkent to protest.

The court found the student guilty under Part 1 of Article 155 (terrorism) of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to 5 years in prison.
