A regular meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the CIS member states was held in Baku

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The regular meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Baku on 15 September. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Delegations of the prosecutor general’s offices of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the Anti-Terrorism Center of the Commonwealth member states took part in the work of the Council.

CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev sent greetings to the meeting participants.

The greeting said that the coordinated and focused work of the Coordinating Council of Prosecutors General is one of the main vectors of interaction in the field of ensuring security and law and order in the Commonwealth countries. In general, its activities are dynamic, and the established close relationships between the prosecutor’s office allow them to effectively solve the challenges of strengthening the rule of law, protecting the constitutional order, the rights and freedoms of citizens.

“The Council consolidated the efforts of prosecutors’ offices, as well as law enforcement agencies of the CIS member states. His work makes it possible to objectively assess the current situation, improve the legal framework for cooperation, introduce modern forms of partnership into practice, and jointly combat international crime,” emphasized Sergei Lebedev.

The CIS Secretary General expressed gratitude to the Council members for their effective participation in the implementation of targeted interstate programs in the field of strengthening security and noted the high level of interaction and trust between the CIS Executive Committee and the Council Secretariat, which has a positive effect on the results of the work.

During the meeting, members of the Council exchanged experience in the work of the prosecutor general’s offices of their states in various areas. In particular, information was presented about international legal cooperation as one of the important areas of activity of the prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Azerbaijan, about the practice in the Republic of Belarus of bringing to justice persons who, at the direction of drug traffickers, committed violent crimes against citizens in order to ensure drug trafficking, about work experience Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the protection of constitutional rights of citizens in criminal proceedings. The Kyrgyz side shared the experience of the prosecutor’s office in the field of protecting the rights of minors, the Russian side spoke about the role of the prosecutor’s office in protecting state property, the Tajik side spoke about the activities of the prosecutor’s office in combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, the Uzbek side spoke about the wide possibilities created in the republic for business entities and private investors.

The Council took note of the information on the results of the inventory of international treaties, decisions and other documents adopted by the highest statutory bodies of the CIS, falling within its competence, and on the results of the activities of working groups to prepare drafts of the Agreement on Cooperation of Prosecutor Generals’ Offices (prosecutor’s offices) modernized taking into account new challenges and threats ) member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the fight against terrorism and other manifestations of extremism and the Agreement on Cooperation of Prosecutor General’s Offices to Combat Illegal Migration.

In addition, the meeting discussed issues related to the implementation in 2022 of joint cooperation programs to combat crime, terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, and strengthen border security on external borders. The topics of interaction in the fight against corruption, the rule of law and the practice of prosecutorial supervision in various areas of activity in the field of protecting human and civil rights and freedoms, and international legal cooperation were discussed.

The Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Igor Krasnov, was elected Chairman of the Coordination Council for 2024.

The awarding of the badge “Honorary Prosecutor of the CIS Countries” and the medal “For Strengthening Law and Order” took place.

It is planned that the next meeting of the Coordination Council of Prosecutors General of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held next year in Yerevan.
