A pilot project with France is being tested in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the Digital Samarkand project, on 4 October 2022, a conference was held jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Uzbekcosmos agency and the French company Airbus Defense and Space.

The event was attended by heads and specialists of the ministry and responsible official organizations, as well as project experts.

The project is being implemented with the support and participation of Airbus Defense and Space under the FASEP grant program of the French government. According to it, more than 210 thousand hectares of agricultural land of Jambay were selected,

Akdarya and Payyaryk districts of Samarkand region and according to satellite data, an analysis of crops was carried out. This information will be provided for use by government agencies and land users. The project, which began in November 2021, is scheduled for completion in 2023.

During the meeting, the participants were also provided with information about the Geofarm project. The role of the project in mapping crops, assessing and monitoring wheat and cotton production, and determining water needs is noted here. In particular, the creation of a database of agricultural lands, the provision of consultations and recommendations to farmers, and work plans on land use have been introduced.

The event considered the Geographic Information System of the Ministry and the priorities for its improvement, the systems that are part of the Digital Agriculture platform and the systems being designed, the expansion of the use of remote sensing technologies and artificial intelligence, a pilot project for receiving and analyzing high-resolution satellite images, which is being implemented jointly with the Agency for Space Research and Technology, and cooperation with Airbus is also being established.

As part of the project, TerraNIS and GE-Data specialists presented information on the design of geoinformation services and the provision of geospace technology services based on satellite images in the field of agriculture, ecology and land use.

As a result of the conference, the issues of establishing regular cooperation on the use of Earth remote sensing technologies and artificial intelligence in the field of agriculture, including the use of the above services on the territory of our republic, were agreed upon.
