A number of important environmental issues were discussed with the Republic of Korea

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 October, a meeting was held between the Deputy Minister of Environment of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jusipbek Kazbekov and the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea Han Hwa-jin.

During the negotiations, prospects for further development and expansion of bilateral cooperation were discussed. In particular, it was noted that Uzbekistan considers the Republic of Korea as an important strategic partner.

Issues of preserving biodiversity, recycling waste and restoring the dried-up area of the Aral Sea were also discussed. In addition, it was noted that effective cooperation between the two countries has been developing since the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation in 2010.

During the meeting, it was also noted that in May of this year, a framework agreement on ecology was signed between the governments of the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In addition, the opening of a representative office of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Uzbekistan and the participation of the Uzbek delegation in the Global Green Hub events in Busan were especially noted.

During the meeting, information was presented on the implementation in Uzbekistan of projects for the production of electricity from waste gases generated at the Akhangaron household waste landfill by the waste processing company Sejin G&E So., Ltd. with the participation of the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI).

At the same time, the solution to local and regional environmental problems, strengthening regional cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection, the introduction of innovative ideas, practices and technologies, the training of highly qualified specialists and the development of the scientific and intellectual potential of Uzbekistan and the entire region were considered. The creation of the Central Asian University of Environment and Climate Change Green University to implement these goals in the republic was also emphasized.

At the meeting, proposals for the comprehensive strengthening of mutually beneficial relations were considered and cooperation priorities were identified.

It should be noted that the work carried out by Uzbekistan in the field of ecology aroused great interest among the guests.

During the meeting, issues of establishing cooperation between Uzbek and Korean research institutes working in the field of ecology, the introduction of green technologies, biodiversity, studying the problem of the Aral Sea and planting trees on its territory were also discussed.

Han Hwa-jin noted that in Korea it is possible to obtain a master’s degree in climate change and take short-term courses in the field of ecology.

At the end of the meeting, Jusipbek Kazbekov invited Han Hwa-jin to the upcoming international conferences, which will be held in the historical city of Samarkand of the Republic of Uzbekistan. These include the UN Special Session on Desertification (CRIK21), the Conference of the Parties on Migratory Species of Wildlife (COP14) and the Climate Change Forum.
