A new powerful earthquake hits Indonesia again

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 occurred in the Indonesian province of Maluku, the National Board of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Indonesia said.

Tremors were recorded 112 kilometers north-west of the Aru Islands. The center of the earthquake lies at a depth of 10 kilometers. There is no tsunami threat. Information about the victims and the destruction was not reported.

In the Indonesian region of Western Sumba on Wednesday two earthquakes of magnitude 6.2 and 6.7 occurred.

As a result of an earthquake of magnitude 9.1, which occurred in Indonesia on 26 December 2004, and the tsunami that followed it, more than 230,000 people died in the countries of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
