The event was aimed at presenting the progress of LGSP activities in close partnership with khokimiyats and discussing the additional measures to ensure increased benefit for local people.

Since its launch at the end of the first quarter in 2010, the LGSP has achieved considerable results within its six main activity areas. For example, by the end of 2011 alone in Namangan region the project will be facilitating establishment of 3 Local Government Information Centers (LGICs) for transparency of state authorities’ performance, One-Stop-Shop Center (OSS) for public services delivery in Namangan city, installation of e-document flow management system in 13 Khokimiyats of the region, as well as development of tourism in “Chartak sanatorium” located in Chartak district of Namangan region through attraction of investors.

The LGSP pays also a special attention to fundraising through new cooperation with donor organizations. In particular, additional funds in the amount of USD 200,000 were raised from the UNDP Democratic Governance Thematic Trust Fund to establish 6 LGICs in both Djizak and Namangan regions, and an agreement with UNICEF Uzbekistan was reached to enhance the public services of OSS for the benefit of children in Djizak and Namangan cities.

It should be noted that the LGSP activities implemented jointly with the Cabinet of Ministers and regional khokimiyats in line with the priorities and goals mentioned in the “Concept of further deepening democratic reforms and forming civil society” of the President of Uzbekistan during the joint meeting of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Uzbekistan on 12th November 2010.

The event took place in participation of about 25 representatives of khokimiyats, NGOs, regional branch of Chamber of commerce and industry, mass media, private entrepreneurship and LGSP team.

During the round-table the LGSP specialists answered the questions of NGOs, private businesses and mass-media as well as took a note about the proposed ideas on increasing the effectiveness of project activities.
