A modern center for environmental diagnostics of vehicles was launched

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with measures aimed at improving the environmental situation.

Currently, the public is concerned about environmental issues, especially air quality. One of the main reasons is the emission of harmful gases from vehicles that do not meet environmental standards, as well as traffic jams. In this regard, comprehensive measures are being taken to improve the environmental situation at the initiative of the head of state.

In particular, to solve problems related to emissions of harmful substances from motor vehicles, the registration and examination department of the road safety department in the city of Tashkent, in the Fayzobod mahalla of the Mirabad district, has been transformed into a modern diagnostic center using the latest techniques.

Today the President got acquainted with the work of this center. When organizing its activities, best practices in the field of ecology of developed countries, such as Germany, Belgium, France, were used.

The process of issuing license plates and vehicle registration certificates is now freed from bureaucracy, and the human factor is minimized. If previously vehicle registration required six to seven stages, now this process has been reduced to three.

Now the center checks for the presence of harmful substances emitted by the car, and depending on the results of the environmental check, a red, yellow or green sticker with an RFID chip is affixed to the windshield of the car.

In the future, the city will be divided into ecological zones depending on the current environmental situation. Entry into these zones will be gradually restricted based on vehicle emissions levels indicated by the color of the sticker. Access to these areas for unauthorized vehicles will be automatically controlled. Fines for violations will be used to finance measures to improve the environmental situation.

For the system to fully operate, it is planned to install about 100 automatic air monitoring stations throughout the country and equip 84 registration and diagnostic centers, as well as 216 district offices of the Road Safety Service with modern diagnostic equipment. In addition, steps are being taken to encourage the use of electric vehicles by reducing license plate fees for this category of transport.
