Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the framework of the 36th Plenary meeting of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) at the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a meeting was held between the leadership of the Central Bank and Chairman of the EAG Yury Chikhanchin.
During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of the national system for combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), as well as measures to strengthen mutual cooperation in order to strengthen national AML/CFT systems.
It was noted that recently steps have been taken in Uzbekistan to minimize the risks of money laundering and terrorist financing in the banking and non-banking sectors.
The guests also shared their experience on the measures taken by the EAG member states to identify and reduce new risks and threats related to money laundering and terrorist financing.
Also, the participants of the meeting discussed issues related to improving the efficiency of risk-based supervision in the field of AML / CFT over the activities of supervised organizations, and, in general, the exchange of experience in the field of supervision. The importance of expanding cooperation in the field of improving the financial literacy of the population, especially among schoolchildren and students, was also noted.

The EAG is a regional intergovernmental organization, main goal of which is to ensure effective interaction and cooperation at the regional level and the integration of the EAG member states into the international system of combating money laundering and financing of terrorism. Uzbekistan became a member of the EAG in 2005. The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the supervisory authority for AML / CFT in the banking sector, the sector of payment services of non-banking credit organizations.
