A meeting of the Coordinating Committee on Air Defense under the Council of Ministers of Defense of the CIS countries was held in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting of the Coordinating Committee on Air Defense under the Council of Ministers of Defense of the CIS member states was held on 12 April in Samarkand.

The meeting was attended by delegations from the military departments of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Defense, enterprises of the military-industrial complex of the Commonwealth countries, heads of basic organizations of the CIS member states in the field of researching air defense problems and training military personnel.

From the CIS Executive Committee, the event was attended by Advisor to the Department for Cooperation in the Field of Security and Countering New Challenges and Threats Yuri Bobruisky. Speaking at the meeting, he voiced the greetings of the CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev to the participants of the meeting.

The greeting says that the military cooperation of the Commonwealth countries is determined by the real needs of the states, taking into account their common and national interests, as well as the emerging military-political situation in the world and along the perimeter of the CIS borders. First of all, this is the creation and consistent development of joint military systems as an important factor in strengthening the regional security of the CIS states.

The unified air defense system of the CIS - the basis for ensuring the commonwealth’s joint air defense against potential threats of air attack in the aerospace sphere is in demand in both peacetime and wartime.

“The created and functioning joint air defense systems in the collective security regions, integrated organizationally, technically, and information-logically into a single system, have significantly increased the ability to protect the airspace of the Commonwealth states,” the greeting says.

According to Sergei Lebedev, the generator of the development of the Joint Air Defense System of the CIS member states is the Air Defense Coordinating Committee, which makes a significant and invaluable contribution to the improvement of the Commonwealth’s collective air defense shield.

Developing the unified air defense system of the Commonwealth states, the Coordinating Committee uses effective solutions in the scientific and technical field and promising advanced technologies, experience in the practical application of the latest weapon systems operating on various physical principles deployed on the ground, in the air and in outer space, united by a single automated control system and solving the problems of aerospace defense.

Sergei Lebedev also noted that in recent years good relations have been established between the Executive Committee and the Coordinating Committee on Air Defense of the CIS member states. He expressed confidence that they would continue to develop in the interests of integration, strengthening the defense capability and security of the member states of the Commonwealth.

During the meeting, the members of the Coordinating Committee discussed issues of multilateral and bilateral military and military-technical cooperation, summed up the results of their activities over the past year and defined tasks for the current year, agreed on proposals for conducting joint activities for the operational and combat training of troops (forces) allocated to the joint air defense systems of the CIS member states, considered a number of financial issues.
