A meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council takes place in Bishkek

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 August 2023, the 62nd meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council was held in Bishkek, the Kyrgyz Republic, which was attended by the heads of the electric power industry management bodies and electric power companies of the CIS member states. This was reported by the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Ilh9m Nematov, Deputy Secretary General of the CIS, took part in the meeting of the Council on behalf of the CIS Executive Committee. Speaking with greetings, he highly appreciated the dynamics of the development of interstate cooperation in the electric power industry in the CIS space and the contribution of the CIS Electric Energy Council to this process, separately noting such areas of cooperation as the use of renewable energy sources, ensuring energy security, digital transformation, and the effective implementation of the energy potential of the Commonwealth.

Nematov also noted that the CIS Executive Committee attaches great importance to improving the efficiency of the CIS sectoral cooperation bodies in the economic sphere. An analysis of the activities of these bodies was considered during a meeting of the Commission on Economic Affairs under the CIS Economic Council on 19 July 2023 and showed that their activities contribute to the active development of cooperation within the CIS in the most important sectors of the economy.

The Deputy Secretary General of the CIS informed the members of the Council about the signing by the heads of government of the CIS member states of the Agreement on free trade in services, the establishment, operation and investment of the CIS member states, which is aimed at overcoming trade barriers and will contribute to expanding the potential and ensuring sustainable development of the free trade area, creating favorable conditions for further growth of the national economy of the CIS member states.

During the event, great attention was drawn to reports on key topics:

"Electric power potential of the CIS member states: analysis of the current state, risks and prospects";

"International experience and possible mechanisms for coordinating the management of scientific and technological development in the field of electric power industry";

"Mining: problems and risks, elements of regulation and opportunities".

At the meeting, special attention was paid to the functioning of the energy systems of the CIS member states in the autumn-winter period, the implementation of the List of joint response measures to emerging problems and a number of other topical issues on the agenda.

As a result of the meeting, relevant decisions were signed.

The next meeting of the CIS Electricity Council is scheduled to be held in the fourth quarter of 2023.
