A joint cotton cluster to be created in Azerbaijan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In order to strengthen subregional cooperation in Central Asia and its integration into the world economy, the UN Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) was launched in 1998.

From 22 to 24 November 2023, the Summit of the member countries of this program was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the Heads of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, as well as the Prime Ministers of Georgia and Hungary, and a representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan took part.

During the summit, an exhibition of SPECA member countries was also organized, at which samples of products of Uzbek textile companies were presented. At the exhibition, negotiations were held with a number of foreign buyers and large retail chains, such as Green Stream, Katan Textile, VMR Tekstil and MS Inshaat, the press service of the Uztekstilprom Association reports.

Based on the results, the company, in view of zero customs duties and VAT for goods from Uzbekistan, as well as its quality meeting international standards, expressed a desire to work with manufacturing enterprises in Uzbekistan.

Moreover, at a meeting with the leadership of the Agency for Development of Economic Zones under the Ministry of Economy of Azerbaijan, further development of cooperation in joint investment projects was discussed, namely the creation of a cotton cluster in the city of Ishimli.
