Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 18 December 2019, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Dilshod Akhatov met with member of the House of Commons of the Parliament of Canada, the head of the Canada-Uzbekistan parliamentary friendship group Ziyad Abultaif, who arrived in our country as an international observer in the upcoming elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes.

During the conversation, the state and prospects of intensifying bilateral cooperation, in particular between the legislative bodies of the two countries, were discussed.

Ziyad Abultaif positively assessed the ongoing large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan, including in the field of economic liberalization and ensuring human rights, and expressed support for the development course chosen by the republic.

The parties confirmed their interest in enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries amid reforming civil society institutions and the implementation of democratic reforms in Uzbekistan.

The meeting addressed other issues of mutual interest.
