Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7-9 November, a WHO subregional workshop on the topic “A new era of preparedness for a pandemic caused by respiratory pathogens for the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus” began its work in Tbilisi (Georgia).

Pandemics caused by respiratory pathogens are recurring events that pose a serious global health threat due to their unpredictability and potentially devastating impact on public health, society and the economy.

The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to focus on pandemic preparedness based on the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic and the lessons learned.

This three-day workshop provides national experts with the opportunity to learn about WHO's new respiratory pathogen pandemic preparedness planning initiative, discuss the key components of national pandemic preparedness planning, and consider how lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic can be used to improve pandemic preparedness.

It is expected that upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to update or refine national pandemic preparedness plans.
