A delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the next meeting

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A regular meeting of the Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES), organized by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE), was held in Geneva, Dunyo news agency reports.

The Bureau of the Conference of European Statisticians is the leading forum for official statistics in importance, second only to the UN Statistical Commission. CES members are the heads of national statistical offices of all 56 countries in the ECE region. The work of the CES is managed by a Bureau consisting of 9 EEC members.

According to information from the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva, the event was attended by a delegation of Uzbekistan led by the Director of the Agency for Statistics Bakhodir Begalov.

The event discussed such current topics as the timeliness, frequency and level of detail of official statistics, population and housing censuses, data management, modernization of official statistics, as well as preparation for the 2024 CES plenary meeting.

Among other things, it was officially announced that the Director of the Statistics Agency under the President of Uzbekistan was admitted to the CES Bureau.

Chairman of the Bureau Padrigues Dalton (Ireland) noted that inclusion in the Bureau for the first time not only in the history of Uzbekistan, but also the countries of Central Asia, as well as participation in such a prestigious high-level organization will serve to increase the prestige of the republic and effectively promote the country’s interests in the field of statistics to the international arena.

As part of the event, the delegation of Uzbekistan met with the Deputy Secretary General of the UN - Executive Secretary of the EEC Tatyana Molchan. The issues of conducting the Global Assessment of the National Statistical System in Uzbekistan in 2024, preparation for the population census in the Sustainable Development Goals and other areas of cooperation were discussed.

Activities were also carried out aimed at strengthening close cooperation in the field of statistics with representatives of the EEC Statistics Department, the CIS Interstate Statistical Committee, the National Statistical Office of Great Britain, Statistics Canada, the Central Statistical Office of Latvia, the Institute of Statistics of Albania, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI) and other international organizations.

As part of participation in the meeting of the Bureau, the delegation of Uzbekistan provided a detailed presentation on the areas of work of the statistical agency of the republic, prospects, challenges, as well as proposals for strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
