Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The 24th International Conference of the Border Police on the topic “Cross-border security through preparedness, prevention and response”, organized by the European Union Agency for External Border Security (FRONTEX), was held in the Polish capital. A representative delegation of Uzbekistan took part in the conference.

The conference is a forum of heads of border agencies of various countries of the world who are directly responsible for ensuring border security. This platform is used to discuss practical issues that are of mutual interest and contribute to the development of areas of practical cooperation in order to increase interoperability opportunities at the international level.

The participants of the event discussed such issues as “Cross-border security through preparedness, prevention and response”, “Striving for the right balance between simplifying border control and security”, “Travel documents and identification fraud. European Travel Information and Authorization System”, “Integrated Border Management - A Look into the Future” and other aspects.

It was noted that with the global increase in the volume of movement of people and goods, agencies managing the borders are increasingly confronted with a choice between simplifying border controls and security. In this regard, the conference addressed the issues of legal rights and interests of states in protecting national security, as well as ways to combat crime and promote the mobility of bona fide tourists and trade.

It was emphasized that in the modern world, where crime moves across borders and often consists of many elements of offenses, the global community of border agencies is becoming interdependent. Protection against many problems requires the border agencies to join forces and exchange information.

Fabris Liggeri, Executive Director of the European Union External Border Security Agency, noted in particular the importance of discussing the issues of interconnectedness and interaction within the global community of border and coastal agencies for the successful implementation of multi-purpose operational actions to combat cross-border crime.

In turn, the Director General of the International Organization for Migration, Antonio Vitorino, said that having studied innovative approaches and advanced technologies related to migration management before and after border crossing, the organization can support the relevant departments in ensuring border security.

The conference also discussed issues of preventing and responding to situations at the border, which is created through strategic planning and action, and expert discussions and plenary sessions took place.
