A delegation of Uzbekistan takes part in the 50th session of the Committee on World Food Security in Rome

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The high segment of the 50th session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) was held at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome yesterday, Dunyo reported.

The delegation of Uzbekistan was headed by the director of the Department of Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ashraf Khodjaev.

Participants were presented with the FAO State of Food Security and Nutrition report, prepared jointly with IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO. The report provides an in-depth analysis of key challenges in achieving the goals of zero hunger, food security and improved nutrition.

Speaking at the session, the Uzbek side announced the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to hold the International Conference on Food Security in Samarkand in 2023 together with FAO.

It was noted that, despite the destabilization of food systems in the world, Uzbekistan continues to make an important contribution to strengthening global food security by improving the efficiency of agriculture, increasing exports and expanding its geography.

It was emphasized that Uzbekistan, as a responsible country in the region, supplies food to Afghanistan as a humanitarian aid to the Afghan people.

The speaker said that on 25 October, Uzbekistan will host a high-level event "Closing the gap in financing the transformation of food systems" with the support of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

In addition, meetings are scheduled with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, as well as heads of departments for water resources and climate change.

The CFS session will continue until 13 October.
