Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of a program to study international best practices in ensuring public safety at transport and tourism facilities, a delegation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited Greece.
The purpose of the visit was to study the practice of organizing the activities of the tourist police at tourism and transport facilities, introducing advanced European experience in this field in our country, establishing partnerships with the relevant competent authorities of Greece.
Greece is one of the most visited countries in the world by tourists. In 2018, the country received 33 million tourists with a population of 11 million people. At the same time, Athens International Airport received about 5.7 million tourists. Ensuring the safety of tourists began in 1974, which indicates the country’s rich experience in this area and the formation of specialized units.
During the visit, the Uzbek delegation held meetings and negotiations with the leadership of the Greek police, departments of tourism and transport, visited the tourist police departments in the field and at Athens International Airport.
Representatives of the republic familiarized themselves in detail with the system of walking and cycling patrols by tourist police at places of tourist congestion, receiving messages from foreigners, promptly responding to calls, as well as with the activities of the call center created by the Safe Tourism Unit of the Greek Police.
At Athens International Airport, a security system and structure was presented for arriving and departing tourists, organizing passport and border control activities, as well as providing other advisory services.
During the visit, the Uzbek side got acquainted with the Greek experience in providing safe tourism in public places and in transport, studied the possibilities of introducing systems and techniques in this area in the republic.
