Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 June 2020, a delegation of the Oliy Majlis took part in an international round table held in Geneva on the topic: "Parliaments and women’s rights: Implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, implementation of the Universal declaration of human rights for all".

The event is organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

During the round table, the participants discussed the role of parliament in ensuring women’s rights to political participation, decent work and education on an equal basis with men, as provided for by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and enshrined in the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

Good practices were exchanged on parliamentary issues, opportunities created at the national level, and an action plan was developed, which is envisaged to be included in the high-level event "Human Rights 75", which is scheduled for 11-12 December 2023.

At the end of the event, the presentation of the second edition of the Guidelines for Parliamentarians on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, developed by the IPU and OHCHR, took place.
