Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Oliy Majlis took part in the international conference "The role of neutral states in strengthening security, stability and dialogue in the OSCE region", held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

The event took place within the framework of the Call to Action - Helsinki +50 initiative and was organized by the Mejlis (parliament) of Turkmenistan jointly with the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the OSCE. The conference was attended by parliamentarians from Central Asia, Eastern and Western Europe, diplomats, representatives of academia and the media.

During the conference, the participants noted that recent years have been characterized by increased geopolitical tensions, new threats and challenges in the field of security, affecting, among other things, the national interests of the countries of Central Asia.

The speakers focused on the role of neutral states in strengthening security and stability in the region, as well as their significant potential as effective mediators. The need to study the driving forces of future conflicts and ways to prevent them, the importance of cooperation, exchange of ideas in strengthening sustainable development was also emphasized.

During their speeches, members of the delegation of Uzbekistan focused on the role of parliamentary diplomacy in conflict resolution, noting that the OSCE PA is one of the most important platforms for political dialogue. In addition, the participants were informed in detail about the international initiatives of Uzbekistan to ensure the sustainable development of the Central Asian region, the measures taken in the field of countering terrorism and extremism, and solving problems related to the environmental problem of the Aral Sea region.

Representatives of the OSCE PA noted the importance of the positive changes in recent years in the relations between the countries of the region, including the particular importance of the format of consultative meetings of the heads of state of Central Asia, which will allow prompt resolution of topical issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and also forms a new atmosphere of political trust and mutual understanding.

Following the event, the participants called for maintaining a constructive dialogue at the regional level with the active use of the platforms and mechanisms of the OSCE.
