541 persons pardoned by Presidential Decree

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On the eve of the celebration of the holy holiday of Eid al-Fitr, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on pardoning a group of persons serving sentences who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction.

By decree, in accordance with paragraph 23 of Article 93 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, 541 persons serving sentences for committing crimes, who sincerely repented of their deeds and firmly embarked on the path of correction, were pardoned.

Of those pardoned, 374 persons were completely released from serving the main sentence, 110 persons were released from serving sentences on parole, and the punishment imposed on 18 persons was replaced with a milder one. In addition, the terms of punishment in the form of deprivation of liberty imposed on 39 persons were reduced.

Among those pardoned are 36 citizens of foreign states, 136 women, 75 men over 60 years old, 6 persons who participated in the activities of banned organizations.

As part of the implementation of the decree, the responsible ministries and departments were instructed to return the pardoned persons to their families and loved ones, to assist them in social adaptation, involvement in useful work, choosing a healthy lifestyle and taking a worthy place in society.
