40 micro hydropower plants to be built in Tashkent region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A new stage in the development of small-scale hydropower is set to begin in the Tashkent region with the planned construction of 40 micro hydropower plants (micro HPPs).
To support this initiative, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been allocated 40 land plots totaling 6.59 hectares. These plots are located in urban and district areas of the region and were previously unused for agricultural purposes. The land will be granted on a permanent-use basis.
Construction of the micro HPPs will be carried out through a competitive process: the designated land plots will be auctioned, and the winners will receive the rights to implement their respective projects.
The facilities will be built in the districts of Pskent, Akhangaran, Bekabad, Yukorichirchik, Bostanlyk, Kibray, Chinaz, Bukin, Yangiyul, Zangiata, as well as in the cities of Angren, Almalyk, Bekabad, and Chirchik.
Previously, a decree was signed by the governor of the Tashkent region authorizing the construction of 43 micro hydropower plants across the region.
To date, 264 promising locations for such facilities have been identified, and land plots have already been allocated for 102 of them, where construction is currently underway.
