299 crimes committed by Tashkent university students in 2024 — Prosecutor’s Office
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Tashkent City Prosecutor’s Office held an extended meeting focused on youth engagement in educational institutions, student upbringing, and crime prevention. During the session, detailed statistics on student-related crime in the capital’s universities were presented.
Currently, 92 higher education institutions operate in Tashkent, with over 562,000 students enrolled. In 2024, 299 students were involved in criminal activity, accounting for 5.3% of all youth-related crimes. In the first three months of 2025, 36 such cases were recorded.
The majority of offenses were traffic-related (72 cases, 21.5%), followed by theft (57), drug trafficking (46), and intentional bodily harm (41). Other reported offenses included robbery, assault, and hooliganism.
More than half of the crimes — 179 cases (53%) — were committed by students from public universities. Institutions with the highest number of cases included the Transport University (27), Technical University (21), National University of Uzbekistan (20), Economic University (19), and the Law University (12).
Private university students were responsible for 140 crimes (42%), with ISFT (23), Alfraganus University (21), and Kimyo University (20) among the highest. Students from international universities accounted for 16 cases (5%).
At the end of the meeting, officials were tasked with enhancing moral education, instilling respect for national traditions, promoting students’ spiritual development outside the classroom, creating a crime-free environment, and implementing the principles of fair education.
